Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why do you copy other people's artworks.

A.  As long as artists have been creating art, they have attempted to copy the works of artists that have gone before them. There are several reasons why an artist would do this. It helps him understand how the other artist accomplished the piece. It helps train your eye to see and then reproduce what is seen. I often invite people to compare my copy with the original for accuracy. Click here for more on this topic.

Q. What is your favorite medium to work in?

A.  It's hard to say... I love to draw and I am best with pencils, I love the smell of oil paints, I love the smell of a woodworking shop, and I love the feel of clay, but the medium that I like most is words.

Q. Who is ELI?

A.  Have you ever wished you could be someone else, someone smarter, dignified, wise, fun at parties, etc.? Me too. Sometimes, really weird people (especially writers) create alter egos. They go so far as to fictionalize even themselves. They create pen-names (usually so their  mama isn't embarrassed when she reads the book) to remain anonymous, aloof, unidentifiable, etc. Well, I am one of those weird people.

If I write, draw, paint, sculpt, carve, or think-up something I particularly like, something I am proud of, I might sign it with an "-ELI." Sometimes it is hidden in the picture somewhere.

It feels pretentious to quote myself.  Miguel de Cervantes wrote his own quotes so I write mine. I just sign them "-ELI"

Maybe when I am dead, someone will make a game out of finding all the "-ELI's" in my artwork and writings.
