Benjamin
Long - It is my privilege to be Ben's student. He is truly a
master of the portrait. Five minutes into the painting, there is a
likeness of the person on the canvas. In the rest of the twenty plus hours until
completion, he captures their spirit in paint.
Paul McCormack -
Paul is an incredible portrait artist. He goes beyond the static portrait and
tells a story that introduces you to the person. When you walk away from one of
his portraits, you not only know what the sitter looks like, you've connected
with the person in the painting. His painting of
Rabbi Elliot Spar
makes me want to meet the man. He is a master of the graphite portrait. Meet
Lauren and you
will see what I mean. His watercolor skin tones are amazing.
See "Expectations."
Paul is a patient and gracious teacher as well. If you are a realist artist, you
must find a way to study with him. I am honored to have had that privilege.
Susan Lyon and Scott Burdick -
Susan's Conté' and Pastel drawings are truly masterful. Do yourself a favor
and find the drawing,
"Keri in Pastel" and have a look. Their brightly colored paintings take
you with them to exotic places and introduce you to beautiful people with
stories you can only guess at.
William Whitaker - If you are an artist in the classical realist
style, you will enjoy his demonstrations.
Alexi Antonov - Alexi is one of the
greatest still life artist that I have ever seen. He teaches the 7 layer
techniques of the 16th century Flemish Masters. You can learn so much from him
just from the three free lessons. Be sure to look at the reflections in the
silver. Alexi also provides for free an artist forum called
ArtPapa.com. This forum has
some of the most kind and helpful artist I have ever met.
Morgan Weistling
- His demos are amazing and so full of life from the first brushstroke. You will
have to check it out to know what I mean. I am amazed by how he progresses
through a painting. Proportion must just come natural to him.
J. Peralta - Her painting,
"Farm Girl," is one of my favorites.
Jim Ostlund and Michelle
Mitchell - Although Husband and Wife, each commands their own style with
excellence. Michelle's painting entitled, "Moving
Toward the LIght," is one of my favorite of all time. The small image of
it here cannot do it proper justice. The skin tones are made up of many colors
that are echoed in the background. Masterful! I have never met a better
draughtsman than Jim. Unfortunately his website only show a few paintings. If
only you could see his drawings and pastels. His portraiture is flawless.
Portrait Painting
The World of
Portrait Painting - Some of the world's best living portrait painters
are here. It is a joy to view their work and read their articles.
A Stroke of Genius - A
website showcasing traditional portrait painters and sculptors. Make your way to
the forum where the artist
share their secrets. You will be glad you did.
Classical Realism Sites
Art Renewal Center - This is a
museum of high quality images of great works from the old and modern masters. It
is a compendium site for all classical realism art.
Favorite Sculpture sites
Highwater Clay - Everything a
sculptor needs is here. If you gesso your own panels, you can find a great price
on Calcium Carbonate "whiting" and Titanium pigment.
